Bionz XR processing engine

The Alpha 7 IV comes with the BIONZ XR processing engine that is also found in Sony’s flagship Alpha 1. This enables fast readout speeds, reduces rolling shutter and improves colour reproduction. This also powers Sony’s latest AI based autofocus system, resulting in improved autofocus, ensuring you will never miss the moment.

759 AF points

Just like the Alpha 1, the Alpha 7 IV comes with 759 phase detection AF points which covers almost the entire frame*. The latest AF algorithms achieve high AF precision down to light levels as low as EV-4 in AF-S mode^.

Real-time Tracking & Real-time Eye AF for human/animal/bird

The Alpha 7 IV employs high level subject recognition technology, like the Alpha 1, to provide Real-time Eye AF for humans, animals and for the first time in an Alpha 7 series camera, for birds.

The latest subject recognition algorithm uses colour, pattern and subject distance data to process spatial information in real time at high speed, allowing for more tenacious Real-time tracking.

High image quality

4K 60p recording in Super35 format with full pixel readout without binning is possible on the Alpha 7 IV. In camera smooth 2.5x slow-motion imagery* at 4K resolution provides new expressive capability.

Full-frame 7K oversampling 4K 30p recording with full pixel readout without binning provides the ultimate in picture quality and sharpness.

Real time Eye AF for Human/Animal/Bird in Movie mode

For the first time in Sony’s Alpha line up, Real-time Eye AF for animals and birds is now available in movie mode. Real-time Human Eye AF is also available in movie mode, as also found in the flagship model, the Alpha 1.

Real-time tracking for movies (touch tracking) and flexible focus control is also possible just like the Alpha 1 and Alpha 7S III. This allows expanded control of visual expression for all users.

S-Cinetone

Alpha 7 IV includes S-Cinetone, the same colour matrix that produces highly regarded skin tones in Sony’s professional Cinema Line and other camera models. S-Cinetone delivers natural mid-tones that are essential to healthy looking skin colour plus soft colours and gorgeous highlights.

Better S-Log3 matching with Cinema Line cameras

S-Log 2 and S-Log 3 gamma curves are provided, the latter emphasising gradation characteristics from shadows to mid grey (18% grey). S-Log 3 makes it possible to achieve 15+ stops of dynamic range*

The minimum ISO when shooting S-Log is 800 and sensitivity can be lowered by as much as two stops (ISO200-640) below the normal ISO range for extra low noise.

Designed for dependable and efficient operation

Change the world instantly with the new Still/Movie/S&Q dial, allowing for fast selection to the dedicated setting.

The Alpha 7IV comes equipped with an upgraded QVGA OLED viewfinder that has approx. 1.6x the resolution of the predecessor model. Standard 60 fps and high 120 fps viewfinder frame rates are selectable.

Also available is a side opening vari-angle touch panel LCD screen that provides broad positioning and framing freedom for gimbal mounted shots, ground level shots or whatever the still or movie subject requires.

Effective Heat Management System

Inherited from the Alpha 7S III, the Alpha 7 IV has its own internal passive cooling system that allows users to shoot 4K 60p 10-bit 4:2:2 continuously for over an hour*.

Livestreaming

Livestreaming functionality is available on the Alpha 7 IV via easy USB connection to a computer or smartphone. No additional software is required.

Users are able to stream real-time in 4K* 15p & FHD 60p, delivering extremely high image quality and realism for remote sharing.

Users are also able to record 4K 25p internally while live streaming. The high quality internally recorded footage remains and can be distributed via social media or online later.

Imaging Edge Mobile

Always connected, the Alpha 7 IV features improved connection settings with Imaging Edge Mobile. An improved Bluetooth connection now allows cameras to pair the camera in advance and keep the camera connected with Imaging Edge Mobile application.

Fast data transfer is now possible with improved transfer speeds via Imaging Edge Mobile supporting 5GHz Wi-Fi on top of 2.4GHz. A SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps (USB 3.2 Gen2) Type-C connector allows fast wired PC remote (tethered) shooting.

Upload & delivery is faster with FTP background transfer via 5GHz wireless LAN. This function allows to transfer still image and movie files to a remote FTP server.

Improved Imaging Edge Mobile Touch Control

Touch tracking and touch focus for stills and movies can be controlled with the Imaging Edge Mobile application, adding extra autofocus control versatility.

Focus frame is now shown on the application display, further enhancing operability.

These are features only found in the flagship Alpha 1 and class leading Alpha 7S III.
